3 Tips To Help You Protect Your New Washing Machine

Posted on: 25 July 2019

When you buy a new washing machine, you want it to last a good 10 years before having to even think about replacing it. If you've recently purchased, or are preparing to purchase, a new washing machine for your home, there are some things that you can do to ensure that it continues running optimally for as long as possible. Here, you'll learn what those things are.

In-Line Water Filter

One of the hardest things for a washing machine to deal with is hard water. Hard water can cause the water inlet valve inside the washing machine to fail several times in the course of 10 years. So, to avoid the damage that the hard water contaminants can cause, install an in-line water filter at the water connection. You'll need two filters—one for the hot water and one for the cold. They are connected to the water valve, and the hoses that feed the washer are connected to the filters.

When the in-line filters become clogged, you won't have to rip your washing machine apart to fix it; Instead, you can remove the filter, soak them in a bowl of white vinegar, rinse them, and replace them. If cleaning them doesn't work, don't worry, they're only a few dollars each; it wouldn't take much to replace them with new ones.

Prevent Mold and Mildew Stains and Odors

Many of the first models of front-load washing machines had some serious issues with mold growth, but now the manufacturers have made some changes so that it's not such a big threat. Now, as long as you keep the washing machine lid or door open when it's not being used, the mold won't be such a big deal; the washing machine will have a chance to dry out between loads, which prevents mold growth.

Another step to take to ensure that mold and mildew doesn't become a problem is to use the washing machine cleaning products available today. These products are designed to keep all of the working parts in the machine clean and free of debris. This reduces the mold and mildew threat as well as protects the working parts from failure.

Purchase an Extended Warranty

Most manufacturers offer a one-year warranty with new appliance purchases. Unfortunately, the problems don't seem to start until day number 366. Discuss the availability of an extended warranty that'll cover the cost of repairs should the unit break after the first year.

Your appliance sales person can help you find and learn how to treat your new washing machine. Hopefully, the tips above will help.
